With the goal of uplifting women in the community, we hosted a "Women's Fair" in the town center of Vemavaram. School girls and women in the village had the opportunity to display their innovative ideas and products. We hope this will inspire other women in the village to take action to work towards their professional and occupational goals.
To help bring educate residents on proper emergency medical care, we held a health workshop in Vemavaram, equipping the residents with essential skills ranging from pulse measurement to CPR techniques. We hope to create a culture of initiative and understanding around patient health in Vemavaram.
To prepare the students of SKS ZP High School for a professional life, we exposed students to various popular occupations, including medicine, government, engineering and business. Professionals in these fields came and talked to the children, inspiring them to reach their occupational endeavors, while providing vital information and resources to help them along the way.
Recognizing the need for universal access to female hygiene products, we partnered with a local NGO, PinkIsShe. Through this partnership, we built a period pad pantry in the girls bathroom at SKS ZP High School. This lifted previously restrictions of access to menstrual products, alleviating previous social and personal stress surround this issue. We hope the continue this partnership with NGOs to ensure reproductive vitality in Vemavaram.
To combat widespread contamination of water sources throughout the village, we distributed WAPI (Water Pasteurization Indicator) to homes in Vemavaram. In addition to this, we are conducting extensive water lab testing to gain insight on the specific impurities. In the future we plan to construct a rainwater collection filtration system, providing unlimited clean water in Vemavaram.
The Orthopedic Health committee is currently working on creating presentations on practicing and maintaining good general oral health. We have also created pamphlets on different diseases and the progression of their symptoms. Furthermore, we have made and provided more informational pamphlets on treatments for joint pain.
During our last trip, we built a computer lab in SKS ZP High School. This change revolutionized student learning, allowing them to access a variety of new resources. This year, we are working with a local engineering university to provide instruction in technology and computer learning. Regular lessons in Microsoft Office will be taught, allowing students to develop skills that will be essential later in their professional lives.
