For the past few years, UCSD’s Project RISHI chapter has served in the village of Anandwan in Maharashtra. The projects we have implemented here include urinalysis, curriculum catered to kids in elementary school about various topics, leprosy stigma evaluations/surveys, and CPR training.
Through these projects, we aimed to promote the health and well being of the individuals in the village.
Besides working with our partners in rural India, we pride ourselves in being involved within our own community. In June, during the nationwide protests for racial equality, we raised over 30,000 dollars which we then donated equally to the NAACP, ACLU, Equal Justice Initiative & Public Allies Inc.
More information on our 2019-2020 activities can be found on our annual report.
Currently, this chapter is working with the village of Vemavaram, located in Andhra Pradesh. The projects that have been implemented here include curriculums revolving around computer literacy, financial literacy, vocational skills, reproductive health, and more.
During the summer of 2022, members of UCSD's chapter were able to implement a few of these projects at Vemavaram. The 4th/5th graders, for example, played games with them to learn more about keeping active and the importance of saving, and high-school girls at the neighboring Murikipudi School were able to attend a workshop to learn about menstrual health and hygiene.
